End of the Semester: Grades

The end of a semester is a mixed time. It's great because it's the start of a break, giving time to rest and unwind from a long semester of work. The bad thing is that grades come out. An with 20 men, you are bound to have bad grades in the mix. Dealing with those is no fun, especially if the person is an active. Pledges just have to repledge, provided they weren't too far off. Actives have to be punished, but you can only do so much. After all, they're not kids anymore. You can't hold their hand and force them to work. So all you can really do is take away their party privileges and give them study hours. The sad thing is that even this might not help. It's all up to the person you are punishing to decide to work. It's a pain, but must be dealt with as a president. Good luck.

First Week

So, I'm almost done with my first week as the president of the fraternity. Surprisingly, it's been pretty uneventful. I'm think it's because the semester is winding down at this point. Next week is Thanksgiving, and then the week after that is "dead week", the week before finals. Not much to do at this point. My VP and I have been doing some planning on what we're going to do next semester. To start, we're going to reestablish exec meetings during the week, so that chapter meetings aren't as long on Sunday. They might be individual meetings with each officer, or it might be one group meeting amongst all the exec officers. We're not quite sure yet. As soon as I figure that out, I'll let you know how that goes. Till next time, frat hard.

Decision

I've decided that I am going to use this blog to chronicle my time as the president of my fraternity over the next few years; the changes we make, the improvements, the failures. Hopefully, in a year's time, this blog will help some other chapter, somewhere in the country, improve themselves. So, here goes...
As of last night, I have become the president of the Theta Gamma chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity at the University of Southern Mississippi. *Whew* That was a mouthful. Anyway, my new vice president and I have lots of ideas on what we can do to improve the functionality of our chapter, and we are going to start implementing them ASAP. We're just gonna have to wait and see how it goes.

So, on a whim I decided to start a blog today. I thought it was my first one, until I logged into Google Blogs and linked it with Blogger. And, lo and behold, this blog popped up. After I went back down to Biloxi, I completely got absorbed in school and forgot about it. Now, I've run into a problem. So I continue this blog, create a new one, or work on both? Hmmm, I guess we'll have to see. If you want to read my other blog, the address is kaistrife.blogspot.com. Check it out!
Update: While kaistrife.blogspot.com will still work, that blog has turned into Flights of Fantasy, a science fiction/fantasy review blog. The better address is http://www.flightsoffantasy.net. Give it a look sometime!
