Class: Design Examples

Shell:
Balance - The ad is not very balanced. The Shell symbols is greatly bigger then the car and the words just don't work with the picture size
Proximity - The ad is not compact in the least. Pictures are everywhere and the words just sort of float there
Alignment - There is not alignment in the sense of the word. Everything is just there.
Repetition/Consistency - The colors are the same in the ad. They are only red, yellow and black.
Contrast - The Shell symbol is bigger then the car so it tends to draw your eye to it
White Space - The yellow in the picture is the "white space". There is a lot of "white space" but it is splashy and random

Clown:
Balance - There is much balance in this ad. The 2 clowns at the opposite ends of the page
Proximity - The pictures and text are close together and work in harmony to draw eyes to the ad.
Alignment - The text is placed so the pictures can be seen and yet the eye will move to the text to read, then back to the clown.
Repetition/Consistency - Red and white seem to be the main theme on the ad
Contrast - The white on top and red on bottom kind of makes you want to read the top then the bottom to avoid the red color on the bottom
White Space - There is not much "white space" on the page be the space there is is used wisely

Biloxi Update

As far as I've heard, everything is going well down in Biloxi. The power has been restored to buildings that can receive power. The schools are opening back up on September 26 and so things are starting to get back to normal. With aid finally heading to the Gulf Coast, everything should be O.K.

I'm going back down on the 2 of October and so I'll be updating from down in the field. Wish me luck!

Class: DTP critique

DEYAS Letterhead:
The first thing that popped out at me when I looked at this document was the heading. The Gray and Red cityscape just draws you eyes in. I really didn't the fact that every letter has all the addresses and phone numbers on them. I would only put the ones that I needed on the paper.
Strub Sports Designs:
Right away I noticed the skating moves that were featured on the shirts. They just catch your eye. The main thing that I didn't like was the fact that the color scheme doesn't go with most of the shirts. That takes away from the natural beauty of the paper. I think that I would change that.
Cedarcraft Gift Certificate:
The Cedarcraft logo caught my eye instantly. It just stands out above the rest of the card. On this particular card, there is nothing that I don't like therefore there is nothing that I want or need to fix.

Welcome!

Hi! My name is Ryan Mottley, and I live in, or used to live in, Biloxi, Mississippi. This blog will mostly be used for a web page design class at my new school. If you see the headed "Class:" in front of a post, it's for school. All others can be read. Heck, read the class ones if you want I don't care. Have a good time reading my thought and classwork!
